Every Lambretta rider and mechanic knows the problem: the miniature Allen locking screws for the gear control cables are quickly worn or already completely rounded, making their instalment fiddly and time-consuming. There are versions available equipped with a slightly larger 3.5mm Allen grub screw, but the tool required to operate it is not usually found in the tool kit on board of your scooter, but at home or in the workshop. 

Even if the commonly available cable nipples are as new and all the correct tools are present, their mounting is not an easy job. They first require positioning in the opening on the rocker lever, then the operating cable has to be threaded through the tiny eyelet. This can become especially challenging as the area is not easily accessible and the nipple often falls through the opening before the cable can be pushed through. The retrieval and repeat procedure can quickly sap your nerves.

The improved design of our SIP cable nipples for Lambretta models gear-operation mechanism provides a solution for both of these problems. They are equipped with a fixing screw that requires a 4mm Allen key tool, the increase in size making it more durable against wear and mechanical abuse. Its outer dimensions have also grown to now be held in place with a 10mm spanner.

The upper edge of the nipple has been provided with a positioning collar, designed to rest on the perimeter of the opening on the rocker lever. This effectively prevents the cable nipples from slipping through the rocker lever openings during mounting, which helps keep you smiling during the job!

These SIP Cable Nipples are also equipped with a screw-end shim, located between the screw and the cable. These protect the cables flanks from damage when the fixing screw is fully tightened.

The main body of the SIP Lambretta cable nipples has an outer diameter of exactly 10mm, ensuring a tight, solid fit within the rocker lever and for the gear-selector rods. There are manufacturers that have attempted to improve the solidity of gear selection mechanism by producing rocker levers with smaller openings for the cable nipples. This can lead to the openings having to be carefully filed open to accept the nipples. Precision manufactured rocker lever, such as the version produced by Salem Speed, fit exactly and function very solidly – with mechanical play reduced to a minimum.
