The HT lead is the connection between the ignition coil and spark plug and has to be able to endure a huge load. If a scooter misfires then the fault may be due to an old or defective lead.
Conclusion: This should be replaced during all major servicing and a spare belongs in every luggage compartment.
TECH TIP: Replace the spark plug cap when replacing the lead as well.
